Finally, A Clean Break!

No surgery!  I saw the x-ray and the doctor said that it was a very clean break and should heal itself just fine in a few weeks.  Woo Hoo!  And no cast either, just a removable splint.  The hand is looking much, much better today, the bruises are fading and the swelling is going down.

But . . . I've not been able to figure out a comfortable way to knit (or type) yet.  Sigh...

Dancing to the "butterbeat"

Dancing to the "butterbeat", originally uploaded by somesai.

My favorite baby panda is growing up! The woman who took this photo takes lots of great photos of Tai Shan. Ah . . . I wish I could see him as often as she does. Click the links under the pictures to see more shots of the panda formerly known as butterstick!

Hmmm....one handed knitting is something I haven't tried yet.

But . . . thanks to Rudy, I might need to figure that one out.  Why?

Because

Rudy

BROKE

My

Left

Hand!

[added later]: typing one handed is only slightly easier than trying to knit that way but Rudy didn't mean to hurt me and it was 30' of leash that actually did the breaking - rudy was out all 30' to my left when to my right, a cute boy jogged by with a cute puppy - rudy took off full speed ahead and the rest happened pretty quickly and involved the following tho i'm not sure of the order: a bottle of water that i either dropped or threw; a look from the cute jogger; a pinky in a very weird position; some sort of exclamation from my lips tho i'm not sure what i said; several feet of leash wrapped around my left hand; a pinky that didn't move and apparently a serious leash burn on the fleshy part of my right hand between my thumb & forefinger.  suffice it to say that it hurt like little else i've felt (kinda like that time i broke my ankle rock climbing in southwestern utah actually).

phew . . .

one handed blogging while under the influence of serious pain killers may not be the best idea so i just hope this makes sense!

all of this happened on friday evening when rudy and i got home and went out for our nightly walk and romp around germantown's unofficial dog park.  that night, i first thought i might have broken a finger but eventually i could wiggle all of them.  it hurt like the dickens but wasn't swollen so i figured i'd wait and see.  sat, it started to swell and looked pretty funny.  i debated along with the folks at the hsop and i decided althought it hurt like crazy, i had too much to do to worry bout this and all a dr would do it wrap it and confirm i didn't break anything.  then this morning i woke up and my hand looked like a cartoon . . . so off to St. Thomas ER I went & the rest is history.

i am to consult with a hand surgeon (!?!?!?! yikes) on tues morning.

as paul harvey said: that's the rest of the story!

If It's Thursday then . . .

it's Stitch & Bitch at Threaded Bliss.  Starting this week, we will be having a Stitch & Bitch Special every week and we will put something on sale between the hours of 5 and 8 pm.

Today's special is 15% off ALL KNITTING BAGS and BASKETS!

We Have The Most Amazing Customers EVER

The Knitty spring suprises are up and guess what . . . one of the patterns, an adorable halter top for babies in HOT climates, was written by our very own Tisra!!!  The same Tisra that made the homemade whoopie pies for the Mason Dixon Knitting event.

Tisra is one amazing woman - she home schools her awesome kids, bakes for the heck of it, writes her own patterns and ALWAYS, ALWAYS has a smile on her face!

Congrats Tisra - we're all very proud of you and lucky to know you.

Speaking of talented customers, the first ever Threaded Bliss customer trunk show is AMAZING- if you haven't checked it out yet, now's the time since there's about one week left.  I haven't posted pictures because no photo can really do justice to the level of talent displayed by the projects we have on display.  So, really you should get down to the shop and see them for yourselves.  You'll be inspired, amazed and awed, I promise!

See you at the shop soon!

P.S. Check this out!  It is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE to me, plus, I know Debi!  Wow.

Hi Everyone

David here, guest blogging today.  Sheila has so much going on she says she is going crazy.  At least it's a short trip.  So I thought I would talk to you guys a bit, let you know the latest in the in the ongoing saga we call Life.  Sheila has made the final adjustment to the store hours for summer.  We are closing at 5:30 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  And, yes, that starts today.  Whoddathunkit?  Berrocco Suede and Plush have come in.  Two yarns Berrocco makes that we just couldn't live without reordering.  The Suede we ordered in the more natural colors.  I can't wait to see what Ruth R. does with it.  The Plush is so soft that baby things are a must.  You really have to touch this yarn to believe it.  The yarn I am most excited about is the Rio De La Plata.  The colors are unbelievable.  The yarn is just gorgeous.  It sings to me (think Hallelujah Chorus with lyrics "I'm A Sweater").  You really have to see it.  And we have in a few of the black BagSmith Project bags.  First come, first serve on those.

Just to catch you up with my personal knitting:  I am working on Noni Bags still.  I am almost finished with the handle for my Majolica bag.  Only a few more flowers to do and it will be ready for assembly.  I am also working on the FiberTrends felted sheep.  Mine is blue, of course, close to felting.  My Safari sweater is moving along nicely.  The body is up to the joining row.  It's time to begin sleeves.  And socks, always with the socks, Regia yarn this time.  I need to reduce the sock yarn stash.  We have new sock yarns coming in relatively soon.

I'm Back . . . well, sort of!

I'm finally able to connect to the internet from home and home is finally the new house.  Suffice it to say, I'm deliriously happy with everything about this house.

Now to explain "sort of:"  In the words of the Yarn Harlot, I'm plum wore out!  I'm still surrounded by boxes, tripping over furniture that all seems to be in the wrong places and so on and so forth.

With luck, by next week my life may return to some semblance of "normalcy" and we'll get back to our regularly scheduled blogging and newslettering!  Until then, I leave you with:

(Hmm...what's wrong with this picture?  A man must have engineered this product.  Note the packaging paying particular attention to the size and proportion of the hole through which one is supposed to pour the lightweight powder with a tendency to clump and the small little cup into which one is supposed to pour said powder!  Is this crazy post making some sense now?  ;-)

All that and it didn't even clean the darn thing!
