I May Be A Day Late But . . .
the fact that yesterday was the Mason-Dixon Knitting publication date was not lost on me! Our (big!) order of this great book is somewhere over/in America on their way to the shop as I type. You might have gathered by now that this is my favorite knitting book of all time. And I'm not just saying that because I've known Ann since forever and through her have gotten to know and adore Kay as well. Really, I promise I'm not and once you see the book, I know you'll agree with me.
The patterns in this book, aside from being well written and beautifully photographed, are at once sublime, attractive, unique, and even classic enough to become heirlooms. I Must Make The Nightgown And Robe. The fibers they recommend are wonderful too but there's much more than just patterns in this book. There's a list of Must-Knit TV and names and descriptions for some of the novelty yarns they'd make (you'll laugh out loud). The story of how Ann and Kay met, the evolution of their blog and their friendship is a great tale and a great testament to how knitting actually creates community.
I could go on and on and on about this book but really, Stephanie the Yarn Harlot herself said it best. Stephanie's newest book, Knitting Rules is finally out as well, and as she always does on her blog, she'll make you laugh out loud. This is her third book and if at all possible, I have three favorites. I really appreciated the list of reasons to give to others about why you need a stash. After having read her first book on an airplane probably scaring the person sitting next to me because I kept giggling out loud, I snuck home with my copy of Knitting Rules and laughed as loudly as I wanted. Of course, her book is travelling to the shop with Ann and Kay's book - good travelling companions, indeed.
As for Ann & Kay, don't forget Friday, April 21 from 7:00ish - 8:00ish, the Mason Dixon girls themselves will be at the shop! There will be refreshments involved and lots of fun, laughter and good old fashioned knitting community. You won't want to miss this great event.
I'm not sure where I am finding the time but somehow, there's knitting growing on my needles. See . . .
This is the latest square for my psychedelic square afghan out of Cascade 220 (I love this yarn!) from the pattern in Mason-Dixon Knitting no less.
Next we have the start of a stroller blanket with a crocheted motif in the center and knitting around it (in a log cabin pattern). This project was a joint inspiration from Betty S and, I know it will be a shocker, Mason-Dixon Knitting!
Kathy Z has also been busy knitting lately and I totally love her knitted bunnies. Cute, no?
Besides actually managing to squeeze in some knitting, I cooked this week! I made my first noodle kugel using my Mom's recipe. Noodle Kugel is basically a Jewish food and is my number one comfort food if it was made by my Mom (much better than anyone else's Kugel including mine). Here ya go.
Yesterday I shared Kugel for breakfast with one friend and dinner with two more friends. What's left (about half of it) is coming to the shop today. Stop by for a taste if you want - it won't be hot but I think it is equally good cold.
Being a Jewish food, Kugel isn't the best in thing in the world for you. I think every ingredient is a carb. Basically, it's made with egg noodles, sour cream, cottage cheese, sugar, eggs, butter and milk. No wonder it is soooooooooooooo good.
Last, but never least, here's my latest fave Rudy picture titled:
It's No Wonder That Chicken Is Suspicious.
