I May Be A Day Late But . . .

the fact that yesterday was the Mason-Dixon Knitting publication date was not lost on me!  Our (big!) order of this great book is somewhere over/in America on their way to the shop as I type.  You might have gathered by now that this is my favorite knitting book of all time.  And I'm not just saying that because I've known Ann since forever and through her have gotten to know and adore Kay as well.  Really, I promise I'm not and once you see the book, I know you'll agree with me.

The patterns in this book, aside from being well written and beautifully photographed, are at once sublime, attractive, unique, and even classic enough to become heirlooms.  I Must Make The Nightgown And Robe.  The fibers they recommend are wonderful too but there's much more than just patterns in this book.  There's a list of Must-Knit TV and names and descriptions for some of the novelty yarns they'd make (you'll laugh out loud).  The story of how Ann and Kay met, the evolution of their blog and their friendship is a great tale and a great testament to how knitting actually creates community.

I could go on and on and on about this book but really, Stephanie the Yarn Harlot herself said it best.  Stephanie's newest book, Knitting Rules is finally out as well, and as she always does on her blog, she'll make you laugh out loud.  This is her third book and if at all possible, I have three favorites.  I really appreciated the list of reasons to give to others about why you need a stash.  After having read her first book on an airplane probably scaring the person sitting next to me because I kept giggling out loud, I snuck home with my copy of Knitting Rules and laughed as loudly as I wanted.  Of course, her book is travelling to the shop with Ann and Kay's book - good travelling companions, indeed.

As for Ann & Kay, don't forget Friday, April 21 from 7:00ish - 8:00ish, the Mason Dixon girls themselves will be at the shop!  There will be refreshments involved and lots of fun, laughter and good old fashioned knitting community.  You won't want to miss this great event.

I'm not sure where I am finding the time but somehow, there's knitting growing on my needles.  See . . .

This is the latest square for my psychedelic square afghan out of Cascade 220 (I love this yarn!) from the pattern in Mason-Dixon Knitting no less.

Next we have the start of a stroller blanket with a crocheted motif in the center and knitting around it (in a log cabin pattern).  This project was a joint inspiration from Betty S and, I know it will be a shocker, Mason-Dixon Knitting!

Kathy Z has also been busy knitting lately and I totally love her knitted bunnies.  Cute, no?

Besides actually managing to squeeze in some knitting, I cooked this week!  I made my first noodle kugel using my Mom's recipe.  Noodle Kugel is basically a Jewish food and is my number one comfort food if it was made by my Mom (much better than anyone else's Kugel including mine).   Here ya go.

Kugel

Yesterday I shared Kugel for breakfast with one friend and dinner with two more friends.  What's left (about half of it) is coming to the shop today.  Stop by for a taste if you want - it won't be hot but I think it is equally good cold.

Being a Jewish food, Kugel isn't the best in thing in the world for you.  I think every ingredient is a carb.  Basically, it's made with egg noodles, sour cream, cottage cheese, sugar, eggs, butter and milk.  No wonder it is soooooooooooooo good.

Last, but never least, here's my latest fave Rudy picture titled:

It's No Wonder That Chicken Is Suspicious.

Our Class Offerings

have their own site now.  I've added a link at the top of the left sidebar and from now on, that's where all the information about classes and workshops will be.

Still trying to get the new domain name and new site straightened out - I've spent lots and lots of time on the phone to India trying to get things right.  Fun!  Not!

Rudy's Feline Twin

Some of you may have heard me refer to the cat in my current neighborhood that is virtually Rudy in cat form.  Here's a somewhat fuzzy picture of the Rudy-cat waiting for a bird to come to my feeder!

Is it any wonder why I am so into Pandas????

A Newsletter

I just sent out an email newsletter - at least I think I did.  If you got one, let me know what you thought of it.

Thanks

P.S.  I missed my blogaversary - on March 4, this blog turned TWO YEARS OLD!

Hall of Fame

Here's Betty with her adorable little girl's sweater.  She did an amazing job!

After a great conversation about Dr. Who at Stitch and Bitch on Thursday, Jennifer (of the fish blanket fame!) brought show and tell and this is one of the many Dr. Who scarves she's made.  Cool, huh?

I'm sure that everyone's caught on to our newest OBSESSION - NONI BAG Designs.  Well, David made some of the felted roses for us (and a baquette is on it's way as well!)

Okay, it's not knitting but everyone's been asking if I've moved yet.  Well, the answer is no.  I don't close on the new house until the end of next month.  There is so very much that has to happen between now and then that it seems like it's so far away that I can't even get excited.  But, when I think about moving to that new house in that new neighborhood (new for me that is) then I get a big silly grin.

Have I mentioned I recently learned that my Dad's mom was actually born literally one block around the corner from my new house?  See, I'm just going back to where my clan began!

In honor of all of that . . .

here's a neat view of my new house:

REMINDER OF WICKED FUN STUFF COMING UP:

Friday night, April 21 at 7:00 PM the authors of the upcoming BEST KNEW KNITTING BOOK EVER will be at Threaded Bliss Yarns and we all think that's the best opportunity for a PARTY!  Come meet Ann Shayne and Kay Gardiner, the lovely ladies of Mason-Dixon Knitting...The Blog and now The Book!  I know you will all adore these ladies as much as I do as they are fun, creative, absolutely hysterical and awfully nice to boot.  As soon as the book is available (we're looking at the first week of April now), Threaded Bliss will have LOTS of copies.  Don't miss your opportunity to get your copy signed!

OTHER STUFF!

I guess what I really needed was a good night's sleep.  I was out cold before 9 pm last night (I think!) and actually woke up this morning when my alarm clock went off.  It has been so long since I actually got woken up that way that I wasn't quite sure what was going on!  For some reason, if I actually get to sleep through the night (without that waking up at 4:18 insomnia thing that's gone on lately!), I always wake up at least 20 minutes before the alarm is set to go off.  Not today.  BUT . . . I am more tired now that I was yesterday.  That's aging for you - a 41 year old simply does not bounce back quite so fast as a 21 year old.  That said, I suspect I'm going to go to bed early again tonight too (and maybe even Friday!)

Anyway, some sleep obviously brought my words back and the speechless moments have passed.  I still can't quite wrap my mind around me being speechless but for a while there, I really was.  Who even knew that was possible?  Not I.

The red/orange mitered square for the big blanket is such a great color combo that my head is simply swimming with design ideas incorporating these two shades of Cascade 220.  I'm seeing fair  isle.  I'm seeing graphic intarsia.  I am seeing felted bags and felted slippers.  I see scarves, sweaters and even socks.  Suffice it to say, I think I'm about to become red/orange obsessed for a while!  But if it gets me back into the knitting mode, I'll take it.  For my mental health, if nothing else, I need to get back to knitting at least a little bit every single day no matter how busy I am or how much is going on around me.

Today's Post

. . . is simply to announce that I've been left speechless.

Hard to believe, I know; exceedingly rare too but . . . I've lost all words.
