Online Quizes

I don't normally do these things but I was too curious about this one when I saw it on another blog and sure enough, I'm what I thought I'd be:

Take the quiz: "Which American City Are You?"

New York
You're competitive, you like to take it straight to the fight. You gotta have it all or die trying.

I always say that somehow my southern-born, southern-bred parents made a Yankee when they had me and that I came out of the womb yelling "YO!  Taxi!"

SICK?? I can't be sick - I own a yarn store!

Apparently, someone or something somewhere didn't get the message and I am sick - darn it.  It started Monday, aches and pains and fever and general yuck (some way to spend a day off) and by yesterday I wanted to die.  I actually spent a big chunk of the morning literally sleeping on the floor of my office.

Thankfully, I am feeling much better today - not back to normal yet but I can hold my head up without pain.

So, back to owning a yarn store. I STILL LOVE IT.  I especially love owning a yarn store in Nashville (well, technically my yarn store is in Brentwood but to me, Brentwood, Franklin, Nashville and all the surrounding areas will always  be just Nashville!).  I grew up here, left in 1986 and said I'd never move back and now here I am and I couldn't be happier about it.  Folks in Nashville and Brentwood and Franklin (I still consider it all to be just Nashville!) and all over Middle Tennessee are the nicest anywhere.

As for the store, we have gotten so much great new stuff in lately from Noro and Collinette and it'll be on the shelves by the end of today.  Here's a list.

Noro Transitions, Kochoran, Yoroi and more colors of Iro and Silk Garden and Blossom.

Collinette Point Five, Shimmer Five, Giotto, Isis, Enigma, Prism and Ab Fab kits.

We also got some Artful Yarns' Jazz; some more colors of Classic Elite Miracle - the yummy Tencel/Alpaca blend; a bazillion colors of Baby Kid Extra from Tahki; more Burly Spun from Brown Sheep; Softwist Bulky and more Plush, Suede and Lullaby from Berroco; some new Dune and Sorbet from Trendsetter; and a couple of boxes of Lana Grossa we've not even had time to check in yet.

Have a great day everyone.

Text Now - More Pictures Later!

Dsc00160

It's Bling-Bling - new from Berroco.  I ordered this yarn in all the colors you see here (that aren't tucked under the color card - I passed on two of them).  Not only does the yarn have a lovely, soft hand, the little flecks of aluminum (really, aluminum!) add a great dimension to the knitted fabric.  Look for it come Spring Yarn Time.

Dsc00198

The Nashville Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.  It was a lovely day for a walk/run and 77 people showed up to walk/run for my recently diagnosed bestest friend in the world.  She's actually more like a sister than just a friend.

Dsc00308

Dsc00309

Dsc00313

Pictures don't do these UNBELIEVABLE projects justice at all.  Marilyn's poncho and shawl are breathtaking in person and to think that she's a relatively new knitter is still mind-boggling to everyone at the shop.  The perfect combinations of yarns in both of these projects have to be seen to believe.

Dsc00317 Dsc00322

Dsc00318

Here we have the lovely Jenny and her equally lovely beaded Kid Silk Haze scarf.  I LOVE THIS SCARF and may just have to make one for myself just like it.  As you can see Charisse loves it too as did everyone in the shop.

Dsc00326

Check out this awesome hat.  It's the Fiber Trends School Colors Hat pattern (my fave hat pattern) knit up in Due Print by my Aunt Celine.  This is her first hat and try as I might I still can't figure out how she knitted the entire thing (bottom up) and never used double pointed needles.  As she said - "ignorance is bliss!"

Dsc00333

The other day the mailman brought me this package.  Carrie's pink ribbons are great and the money is from a man who saw her making these ribbons and bought one on the spot.  THANK YOU CARRIE.  Now, Atlanta isn't really that far from Nashville (I know this since I have a degree from Emory!) so when are you going to head up this way????  We all enjoy your blog and would love to meet you.

Dsc00334

Another ribbon, this one knitted by Becky and perfectly reflects her colorful personality.  She's going to be helping us in the shop on Saturdays so be sure to come by and say hello.

Dsc00337

Vickie, a lapsed knitter, is back in the game.  Her first project - the Squiggle Squared scarf.  Awesome, isn't it?  Welcome back to the fold Vickie!

Dsc00352

What's a post from me and my new digi-cam without one gratuitous CUTE photo.  The other day when I first posted a pic of Maggie, I didn't think anything could be more cute.  Of course that was before my nephew (the cutest kid on earth!) met Maggie (the cutest puppy).  It was almost more "cute" than I could bear!

Ta ta for now and thanks for stopping by the blog.

A Plethora of Pictures

Okay, I have so many pictures to post and I'm exhausted (business just keeps getting  better and better and we keep getting busier and busier - how cool is that?  :-).  That said, here we go.

Dsc00204  Dsc00206

Dansko - The Official Footwear of Threaded Bliss Yarns

Dsc00201 Dsc00202

The Mumbo Jumbo No Rules Scarf Built for Two (Louann and Martha)

Dsc00213 Dsc00214

Lauren and her Diagonal Garter Drop Stitch scarf out of Cinema by Artful Yarns (I think!)

Dsc00217

Cathy and Charisse - two of the Threaded Bliss Yarns' "Lunch Bunch"

Dsc00218 Dsc00219_2

Bobbi and her AWESOME scarf with Eros and Flutter.  It's a happy scarf!

Dsc00234

Maggie - Does it get any cuter than that?

Dsc00243

New Debbie Bliss Soho yarn.  It's 100% wool, stunning and variagated, felts beautifully and is accompanied by some great patterns, and we have EVERY color.  You just have to see this gorgeous new yarn.

Dsc00257

The All-New, All-Noro Window - from left to right Yoroi (new and amazing and soft); Transitions (more on that later but almost too cool for words); Big Kureyon and Silk Garden.

Dsc00275

The latest and greatest Threaded Bliss Yarns' Original Design as modeled by our Knitting Savant and designer extrordinaire, Elizabeth.  This Poncho/Cardigan is knit in luscious, soft and drapey Plymouth Indiecita Baby Alpaca Grande.  I just finished two chemo caps for a friend out of this yarn - it's that soft.

Dsc00281

The Heart Scarf from the Knitty.Com Fall Suprise knitted with Reynold's Blizzard - yummmy yarn.

Dsc00284

Pre-felted Constant Companion bag knit with Lamb's Pride Bulky from Brown Sheep - pattern from The Knitter's Stash.

Dsc00286 Dsc00304

Noro Transitions - these pictures are almost an injustice.  Each color change brings a change in fiber: wool, silk, cashmere, alpaca, angora, camel and kid mohair.  This is a yarn you have to see to believe.  I'll take some better pics tomorrow at the shop under our new and even better lighting - it's really daylight in there now.

Dsc00267

The Ruffles scarf from Scarf Style knit in King Tut in black - the Energizer bunny of scarves - it just kept going and going and going and going!  It's meant to wrap twice around the neck - one of the reasons I chose to make it in cotton.  It's really fun to knit - short row heaven.  In fact, I've already cast on for another. Hey locals - if anyone wants a class in short rows to make this scarf, just let me know via email or call the shop.

Dsc00272

Noro Yoroi, another brand new yarn.  Yummy, soft, yummy, "knit me" yarn.

Now I am really beat.  G'night and thanks for stopping by.

Threaded Bliss Customers' Wall of Fame Grows

Meet Stephanie and her very first sweater:

Dsc00181_1

This is the Opptuna sweater in Silk Garden from Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton Book Two.  Stephanie has amazed us all with her dead-on accurate instincts for knitting.  The picture doesn't do this adorable sweater justice so take my word for it - it's perfect.  Now that she's inspired by her first finished garment, she's started an outfit for the new baby on its way using Debbie Bliss Cotton Cashmere.  Keep up the good work Stephanie - we're all very proud of you.

Next we have more Silk Garden in Martha's first finished object in 40 years:

Dsc00183_1

Do you think she chose to wear that awesome pink shirt since it matches her new scarf?  I do!  Anyway, Martha's becoming quite the fixture at Threaded Bliss and none of us there could be any happier about having her around.  If you're lucky she'll be there when any of you come to the shop and you too can get to know this absolutely delightful woman.

Martha's success in the making of her scarf proves what I always say:  If you've not knit in a very long time, don't sweat it because even if your mind doesn't remember what to do your hands will.  Moral of the story - don't think so much and just knit.

That concludes yesterday's Wall of Fame entries but not this post because look at what came in late yesterday afternoon:

Dsc00188

This is the newest thing from Vogue Knitting.  It's young, it's fresh, it's sometimes funky and it even has knitting related horoscopes.  For me (a Virgo if there ever was one) my lucky needle sizes for November are 11 and 15 (I think it was 15).  I'll update this post when I get to the shop and let y'all know what else is predicted in my November knitting life.  We have 11 copies of this new magazine and like its older cousin Vogue Knitting, I suspect they'll go fast.

Lastly, I'll leave you all with a new teaser and an explanation of an old one.  First, check this out:

Dsc00163

Now for the explanation of a teaser I posted a long time ago:  remember "Mongolian Cashmere?"  Well, Threaded Bliss Yarns is very close to debuting the very first Threaded Bliss Yarns' Yarn.  That's right, we're going to have our very own private label yarn and it is the most amazing worsted weight mongolian cashmere.  In fact, the yarn is so incredible that there aren't even words adequate to describe it.  Anyway, it will take us some time to get it packaged to sell but we're working on it and hope to have it out next week.  You'll have to see it and feel it to believe it.  Lots of folks who have been in the shop have had the opportunity to do both and if they caught me in silly mode, I've been known to take two of the cones and walk around Madonna style!

Oh yeah, one more thing - the Great Pink Ribbon Project has now raised just under $600 and we're still going strong.  Why not consider purchasing ribbons for all the important women in your life?  We'll even ship them to you.

It's off to work for me.  I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend.

I'm Tickled Pink

Yesterday's mail brought us some ribbons from Amanda in Baton Rouge. Thank you Amanda!

Dsc00148

These beauties were hand delivered by our good friend Cherie. She even promised more to come.

Dsc00176

Now for the daily Threaded Bliss Knitters Wall of Fame. Look what Teri made for her lucky husband. Bear in mind that Teri is one of our new knitters too!!! Way to go Teri, we told you that you're a natural.

Dsc00151

She used Noro's Silk Garden and the pattern is from the latest Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton book for Noro (the same one with Klaralund in it)  Jane Ellison's latest Simply Noro book (oops!). If anyone wants the pattern or the yarns, we got a great shipment recently and have plenty of both.

While here in Nashville it has hardly been cold enough to know it is winter yet I've already started ordering spring yarns. So far WOW. Imagine what a yarn called Bling Bling must be. I'm keeping it a secret for now but it is really fun as is the yarn called Tutu.

From Berroco, we'll have some new colors in lots of yarns but I am most excited about all the new solid and adult shades in Lullaby. The yarn is very much like their Suede but washable and slightly smaller in guage. It's done really well in the shop in all the children's colors we've had. There's also lots of new brights in old standards like Cotton Twist and fun carry-alongs like Candy FX. In Denim Silk we ordered three new colors, each more luscious than the last. Coming soon are some great colors of Softwist Bulky - among my favorite yarns ever. Also coming in the very near future are some great patterns from a new designer - including lots of really nice ponchos.

That's it for now. Thanks for stopping by!

Pink Ribbons From Around the World (and photos, photos, photos!)

WOW WOW WOW

The first donated pink ribbon to arrive by mail came before I got the new camera but it was sent in by Nancy in Los Angeles and is lovely. In fact, her ribbon sold immediately. Thank you Nancy.

The second batch of ribbons in the mail came all the way from the Czech Republic. I may be a tad overly emotional these days but I was so moved by Eva's sweet note and beautiful ribbons that I got teary over it all. I was able to get a picture of these beautiful ribbons but again, they sold quickly. Thank you Eva!

Dsc00133

I forgot to take a picture of the bazillion pink ribbons that my mom, aunt, our friend Barbara and I recently made. Suffice it to say I spent a very large portion of my day off turning i-cords into ribbons!

Also, prior to getting the new camera, Tracy brought in some of the greatest pink ribbons (what else would you expect from an artist/jewelry designer). Now that I have the camera I went to photograph these ribbons only to find them also already sold. I do know that Kay of Mason Dixon Knitting fame bought one of the big ones made with lots of eyelash when she came by the store last week. Tracy also felted her ribbons which I think is a really great idea (one of them even had beads on it!!) Thank you Tracy. P.S. Tracy also makes these chocolate biscotti that are the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. Yet another multi-talented Threaded Bliss customer.

Keep those ribbons coming though since they are selling almost as fast as we can make them and we've now raised well over $500! As I have mentioned before, just because October is past doesn't mean we should stop working to fight breast cancer so the Great Pink Ribbon Project will continue through the end of 2004. Thank you also to all of you in blogland who've written aobut and linked to my blog and this great project.

Now, for the gorgeous customer project of the day - it's not done yet but it is so gorgeous that I asked Penny if I could post a picture. Check this beauty out:

Dsc00139

This scarf is made using three skeins of Fiesta yarns - one La Boheme, one Gelato and one Zia. The pattern was written by the ever-so-talented Sue who works part time at the shop and knits so fast it's scary. I believe the colorway Penny is using is Sahara but don't quote me on that. Way to go Penny!

On another note - check our what ran in this past Sunday's paper in the Shopping Savvy section:

Dsc00144

I know I am biased but could that dog be ANY cuter? Without a doubt he has definitely become the most popular dog in middle Tennessee. Recently, we gave him a promotion and he is now Threaded Bliss Yarns' Vice President of Public Relations and Business Development. At this rate it won't belong until he owns the joint.

Now this next picture requires a small bit of explanation:

Dsc00121

This oh-so-lovely piece of knitting created by the talented Elizabeth (otherwise known as the Threaded Bliss Yarns' Knitting Savant) turned out to be a lovely, sparkly, belly baring top for her male friend's halloween costume as a belly dancer! Sure wish I had a digital picture of Steve wearing this thing with his belly chain and slinky, red pants. It was entirely too funny.

My final picture of this post is of something I so completely adore. Kate, of Kate Gilbert Hand Knits and Needles on Fire fame sent me this lovely card for my birthday. One of my neighbor's in the shopping strip where we are located is a wonderful frame shop and look at what they did:

Dsc00124

Kate, thank you again for my favorite birthday card of all time!
